80 years of Mediobanca
Mediobanca has turned 80.
Banca Di Credito Finanziario S.p.A. was established in Milan on 10 April 1946: a bank to fill the void in a country emerging from World War II, with no medium-term credit market to speak of, but with great hopes for the future.
The idea of a new bank was conceived by Raffaele Mattioli and Enrico Cuccia in the summer months of 1944, just a few days after the liberation of Rome. “Despite so much uncertainty over the future, even in terms of survival”, Mattioli wrote, the idea took form as the result of “a broader and more confident view of the development of our nation”.
The same mission of anticipating and building the future has not changed over time. In the eighty years since its inception, Mediobanca has followed the entire economic history of Italy, from the post-war reconstruction to the “economic miracle”, from the privatizations to digital finance. Mediobanca has always been ahead of its time.
In these eighty years, Mediobanca and its people have built a reputation for analytical rigour, discretion and competence: all qualities that have accompanied the Bank in the various stages of its growth.
From advisory services to asset management and consumer finance, right up to the most recent developments in the areas of Wealth Management and investments in Private Markets, the Bank has faced changes in the economic scenario with a business model that combines strategic continuity with innovation.
The Bank has consolidated abilities and specializations that have strengthened its role in supporting the Italian country system, and continued to renew its business model, including through expansion in international markets.
